Member Interview

Hello Teamies!!
Introducing...

Please tell us a bit about yourself –

My name is Monica and my family and I have just relocated to Virginia. I grew up in NC so I feel very close to home here tucked into the Appalachian mountains. My Etsy shop is called Moon Over Maize and is where I sell my handmade jewelry. My business began when my youngest child was a little babe and I would work when she went to sleep at night and the moon was high above. Her middle name is Maize and my husband came up with Moon Over Maize.

How did you learn about Etsy Project Embrace?

Kim of slinkymalinkicat contacted me at the time the team was being set up. I had known a bit about Laura through treasuries and I knew this would be a team I'd be proud to be a part of.

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?

I think my favorite item right now is this bracelet...
It took me a great deal of time and patience and I was quite pleased with how it came out.

Labradorite and Blue Chalcedony Bracelet - Blue Lagoon

What is your favorite possession, and why do you cherish it?

I tend to hold onto quite a few possessions. Two that really mean a lot are my wedding dress that my Mom made me and an anvil that my Pop gave to me. He's a metalsmith as was his Dad and he gave me his Dad's anvil last year. If you're curious about the work he does you can see some photos here....

What do you collect?

I used to collect all things artichokes! Now I just collect stones for jewelry.

Aquamarine and Sterling Silver Earrings

Where would you like to be and what do you hope to be doing ten years from now?

Ten years from now I hope I'm doing very much what I am doing now. Homeschooling my children, taking care of household duties, dancing with my husband and, of course, making jewelry.

Tourmalinated Quartz Necklace

Here are a few items from my shop and I've also attached a photo of myself, my workspace as we were building it and our new pup. :)

Citrine and Sterling Silver Earrings

Thank you so much Monica, it's so nice to meet you!!
xoxo,
Erica

  10. Wow! I have been admiring your jewelry for years and it's so wondrous to read about where some of your creativeness happens and comes from....your Dad! What a talented man, I have always thought your jewelry had a bit of the "architectural sensibitilies" about it and now I know why! Love LOVE your little puppy and the story about your Shop name! Wishing you the Absolute BESTEST in your new home!!

    Erica....AWESOME-ness on the Interview....Thank You!!
