Favourite Things

Happy Tuesday, everyone! It seems my wrangling skills need a bit more work. In the meantime, I have a refreshing treat courtesy of my Philippines-born, California-bred husband to make up for my failings. When he was a kid living in San Diego, his mom would take ripened avocados from a tree in their backyard, mash them up with milk and sugar and serve it as a cool drink. Chris's version involves less chunks, but requires a trip to the grocery store.

Avocado Drink
(serves 2)

1 ripe avocado
3 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar

Combine all three ingredients. Blend in blender till smooth. Pour over ice. (The colder it is, the better it tastes.)

That's it! Consistency will be that of a milk shake. The taste? SO. RIDICULOUSLY. GOOD. And may I suggest...

...serving it out of opendoorstudio's Glass Decanter...

...into 5gardenias' Tall Tumblers...

...whilst wearing 3squares' Avocado Earrings?

  3. the photos make it seem sooo inviting!!! unfortunately I have a problem with savoury shakes / cold soup. who knows where it comes from, & I adore avocados, so this should be right up my street - maybe I should just bite the bullet & give it a go!!!!
    Oh, & my favourite thing to do with avocado is slice it on nice bread with sliced camembert on top & pop it under the grill before a glug of balsamic vinegar to finish..... truly awesome snack!!!

  4. I'll have to try this! My fave way to eat avocadoes besides guacamole, is to cut it in 1/2, dice it up in the shell, sprinkle with hot sauce and dig in.

  5. oh i love avocados! i only use them in guacamole as well but will have to give this on a try~ thanks! (and such beautiful luxurious creations to enjoy with your recipe as well!)
