Treasury East What Makes it Tick?

No Waiting for the Magic Box to Open Anymore...

Staying up until the wee hours of the morning just to catch one...

You can make as many lists as you want, anytime you want...

What do you think...love it or hate it?

Everyone is trying to figure out the algorithm to understand what gets and keeps your treasury on the first page (the front page is another topic...) of the thousands of treasury east lists. From observation it appears that once you make a treasury you need to get as many people to visit your treasury as possible. They also need to click on each item and comment. The faster you get people to visit in a short time span the more likely it is that your treasury will be on the first page and stay there for, maybe a few hours! Since there are sooo many treasuries now we can't expect that buyers are going to page through all of them. Buyers will certainly look at the first page and probably a few more pages deep.

It really appears that Etsy is pushing hard to get everyone to use more Social Media tools...Twitter, Facebook, blogs...etc. Since these tools are used to communicate quickly and get rapid response to new treasuries and shop changes. If you have been hesitating to adopt, at least one of these, marketing tools I would suggest that you do a little research and find one that you can live with. I believe that you will begin to see less and less traffic in your shop if you don't begin using some of these tools.

There seems to also be some bugs when visiting and clicking the new treasuries. Depending on your browser your clicks may or may not register. The biggest offender is IE. It seems that Firefox works the best and Sarfari is marginally successful. I'm sure Etsy will get all of this under control pretty soon. Etsy has also stated that clicks sometimes take time to show up, but they will eventually.

You may be frustrated when clicking on items and you have to page back to keep looking at each new item. Try this trick. Open the treasury in a separate window. Then once that window is open, if using firefox you can hold your control key down and click on the item, it should open as a new tab within that window. Keep clicking each item like this and a tab will open for each item. Once you have looked at each you can then just close the entire window, rather then closing each item individually. This same thing works in Safari and I've been told it works in IE, but the commands are a little different.

If you want to find out what treasuries you are in and have google analytic's set up Craftopolis now has a tool to let you search. If you want to find a friends treasuries use this format with their shop name at the end:

If you have found any shortcuts or tips on how to maximize Etsy's Treasury East, post them in comments. I'll bullet point the additional tips/tricks so that we have one place to find them.

  2. These are all gorgeous collections! I am not sure about T-East, though I have made several of them and had one of them on the first page for about 3 days. It's overwhelming to me because there are so very many to see. I always appreciate a little convo if someone has featured me, and I always convo everyone who is featured in mine. I have yet been able to make the Craftopolis thing work, though I am set up for Google Analytics. Oh well.

  4. Rebecca, do you have more then one sight linked to google analytics? At first I didn't think mine was working for my etsy shop, but realized my blog is set up for GA too and you have to switch to the sight that you want it to see...so I had to switch to my etsy shop.

  6. Thank you, Rose! You've chosen beautiful treasuries to feature and given us a clear narrative overview of East.

The entire East set-up seems ponderous and daunting to me, but since that will soon be the only option, I'll keep making them.

I'm on FB, but there just aren't enough hours in the day for me to create my jewelry, keep my shops fresh, live my life, AND promote, promote, promote ... *sigh*

  8. Thanx for the info. I don't really like the new treasury, but at least I can make one whenever the urge comes. I just really miss the challenge of catching one and the ease of paging through a reasonable number of them. But, I will adjust...

  9. Thank you Rose! Very clear especially since I was a bit bewildered...but I have to agree with Mollie, who has time for all those social sites to promote as well as create? sigh...I do miss waiting for the box!! and haven't tried my hand at TE yet. But I appreciate all of you who have invited me into your beautiful treasuries! xoxo Cait

  11. Thanks for this post, Rose! It took a little while to get used to, but I'm a big fan of Treasury East. I hated waiting for the Treasury to open and had been missing the opening of both for weeks. I like that I can make as many as I want whenever the mood strikes. It's great for keeping inspiration alive. Thanks for the Firefox tip! Kim (slinky) told me that to search for lists made by certain sellers, you can use this link and just change the shop name to whomever you're looking for... http://www.etsy.com/treasury/people/budpnq

  12. Thanks for this great post Rose. I am still not entirely sure how I feel about it to be honest. I do enjoy being able to make one when I feel like it, but I don't like the 'endlessness' of it ....

Thanks for featuring 'Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby'!

  14. A terrific post, Rose! Thanks!!The Firefox info is very useful..and appreciated; I have not made a TEast in over a week, turned off a bit by a number of things; I will get back to making them, likely even tomorrow, and of course always continue to click on all EPE ones I see..and other folks' too. One thing I'm not convinced of is whether the social networks actually do help with sales..they obviously help some shops but there are always decisions to be made about where to put one's energy.. all this gives me more to ponder and explore...
